Transitional design starts with traditional home elements, that are softened
and refined to lean a little more contemporary.
Transitional style homes are extremely approachable for most buyers, bringing the comfort of traditional style homes with a contemporary twist. For many, this allows them to take a step towards contemporary without diving in head first.
Examples of this would be taking counter top edges from an ogee edge to an eased edge. Corbels that are commonly found in traditional homes wouldn’t be as blocky, with less detail. Patterns in fabrics aren’t bordered with tassels and nail heads. Every pillow isn’t trimmed with rope or skirts. A backsplash may be made up of one tile instead of having deco tiles and intricate liners.
Furniture may still have rolled arms, but not nearly as intricate. Patterns in traditional style furniture are often rigid with defined patterns, where transitional style furniture is softer and free flowing.
