When designing a mid century modern space, the architecture plays a crucial role in the overall design aesthetic. When I think of mid century designs, I think of Frank Lloyd Wright. His use of strong lines, decorative block, and glass are iconic.

Geometric shapes and bold color use is a cornerstone of mid century designs. We look incorporate most of this through custom furnishings and fabrics to accentuate the architecture and create an authentic design that will be timeless.

This contemporary style can lean towards minimalism, so it’s important that every detail is thoughtful. The quality of craftsmanship is crucial to the success of the project.

Our Bedrooms Design Process

1

Programming

We start our process by taking the time to get to know the client’s goals for their home. Understanding their requirements, and how they will live in the home is crucial to creating the perfect home for them. Aesthetics, timeline, and budget will all play an important role in defining project parameters.

2

Schematic and Conceptual Design

The actual design process kicks off reviewing floor plans together for suggested modifications. For new construction this means receiving preliminary plans from the architect. On a remodel, this means having plans created to accurately reflect field conditions. We review conceptual images together to define the design direction of the home, and conduct conceptual material meetings to confirm the design direction.

3

Design Development

After conceptual material meetings have taken place, we move into design development. Here we seek to determine the materials that will be used in the home, and how they will be applied. We dive into design details like cabinetry and fire places, ceiling designs, furniture layouts, specialty spaces, etc. This culminates in preliminary elevations of key spaces.

4

Construction Documentation

Upon signoff of the preliminary elevations, we move into construction documentation. This includes creatin detailed drawings and elevations of most spaces in the home. The goal here is to clearly define materials, how they will be used, and provide enough information to the contractor so they can price out the construction of the home.

5

Construction Administration

Inevitably, when creating something custom, questions will arise. We are available throughout the construction process to answer questions and problem solve as a team to ensure the best possible experience for our clients. This may include site visits, value engineering, change orders, product reselections, etc.

6

Lighting Design

Once the spec book is complete, we work with the homeowner to select the decorative light fixtures throughout the home. This phase is often overlooked, but is one of the most important elements that sets apart good homes from the truly spectacular. You can spend a fortune building a beautiful home, but if you don’t light it properly, you won’t be able to truly appreciate it.

7

Furniture Design

We work with our clients to design and procure the soft goods for the home. This ranges from window coverings, area rugs, artwork, and wall coverings to custom furniture and accessories both inside and outside of the home. We are able to provide a turkey service through installation of all merchandise.
